The Preparation Test was implemented in 2024 as a means for helping to prepare for the exam. Content covered in the Prep Test (in 2024 and later) was not written off and taken out of the exam syllabus. The prep test was essentially asking students a smaller set of questions than the exam would cover, but they were some reading, comprehending and thinking questions (that needed some time to digest and make sense of). That was done partly in response to students having had some challenge in the past year or two to effectively strategize and respond to these sort of questions (basically the marker got annoyed with students doing a superficial job or skipping chunks of these 'long answer' questions - hence this preparation test is to try and get students prepared for doing a decent and hopefully suitably intellectual and well motivated response to the questions (so that we don't get patchy answering for these significant questions).
